Assignment title The Audition
In this assessment you will have opportunities to provide evidence against the following criteria.
Indicate the page numbers where the evidence can be found.

Criteria 1 P1 learners should provide a list of chosen audition pieces giving reasons for their choice and unelaborated descriptions of the piece. At this level cited reasons will tend to be obvious and rather simplistic and descriptions of chosen pieces will be in the form of generalised statements regarding the genre and style of each piece.

For M1, learners will provide an account that gives more detail with regard to choices made. They may, for example, explain why a particular piece was favoured over another and will also be able to compare and contrast the features of a programme of different audition pieces. The key features of the audition piece will also be explained in greater detail and related to choices made.

To achieve D1 learners should provide an account that demonstrates a detailed investigation into possible audition pieces that has resulted in appropriate and well-considered choice being made. Learners should relate choice to their own vocal and physical ability. They may also discuss their choice in light of requirements of specific drama schools/HE institutions they are considering applying to. Close reference to the style and content of the piece will be used to justify decisions made.
Criteria 2
To achieve P2 – Develop vocal and physical performance techniques, responding to character and style of audition text.

To achieve M2 - Develop vocal and physical performance techniques, showing control and thoughtfulness in response to character and style of audition text.

To achieve D2 – Develop vocal and physical performance techniques, showing consistent control, physical ease and an imaginative response to style of audition text.

Criteria 3 To achieve P3 – Demonstrate vocal and physical techniques in an audition situation

To achieve M3 – Demonstrate competent vocal and physical techniques in an audition situation

To achieve D3 – Demonstrate effective and confident vocal and physical techniques in an audition situation

Scenario
In order to gain work, actors are usually required to audition. The audition should be a piece of perfection, thought about, rehearsed and honed with at least as much attention as would be given to any full-length play.
Therefore having now experienced the journey of the acting unit, it is now time to implement that knowledge and explore 3 monologues and then perform them.
You will perform 1 in class where you will be redirected. You then will choose 1 modern and 1 Shakespeare monologue from a wide selection which will be offered.  These will be performed twice.  Firstly to an external panel in a drama school scenario.  During this audition you will be redirected by the panel also.
Then we are having a sharing evening to the friends, members of the public and professionals called ‘Solo Showcase’ .  This type of event would take place at the end of your training at a drama school to agents.

Task 1 - Set up your Audition BLOGGER account.  This is going to be how your work is assessed. Jonathan will go through this process and will show you his blog.
This gives you the opportunity to record all your work and assess and evaluate what you do.
Task 2

You will be given 1 modern monologue.

1. Read it and write notes on your first impressions.  Why is this mono appropriate for you?  Record your thoughts on the monologue itself.
2. Take part in ‘uniting’ exercise, including identifying objectives/barriers
3. Research into the play / playwright
4. Line- learning and independent character work
5. You will then perform this piece to your tutor.  During this process you will be given re-direction.  This performance will be recorded.
